MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts, 20 May 2013 — Qualtré, the leading developer of next generation silicon MEMS inertial sensors, announced that they have received a $3million investment from a long-time strategic partner.  Qualtré has had an ongoing relationship with this partner for a number of years, and recent progress in the development of Qualtré’s Bulk Accoustic Wave sensor technology has caused strong interest and enthusiasm to invest in Qualtré.

Qualtré intends to use the additional funds to further the development of its disruptive Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) MEMS sensor technology, which will allow partners and customers to differentiate next generation products in the mobile, automotive, and industrial markets.  Qualtré has been providing partners and prospective customers with samples over the past few months showing best-in-class performance on a number of characteristics, such as vibration immunity and drift. These features are essential for enabling emerging mobile applications such as pedestrian navigation, location-aware service and optical image stabilization.  Qualtré’s technology will also drive a 2x price/performance advantage in the high performance industrial and automotive markets.

The market for MEMS inertial sensors continues to growth at an accelerated rate compared to the overall semiconductor industry.  Industry experts predict the market for MEMS inertial sensors will exceed $4B by 2015.  With the steady increase in use by automotive safety systems, the adoption in high volume platforms like smartphones, tablets and smart TV remote controls, and the emergence of new the applications in the health and sports monitoring market, inertial sensors continue to enhance our lives with fun and desirable experiences.

“We have created a world-class MEMS engineering team comprised of experts in MEMS sensor, ASIC, and package design, as well as test engineering.  Our team has made tremendous progress in the commercialization of our motion sensor technology”, explained Edgar Masri, CEO of Qualtré. “We are now showing the compelling value of our technology to key partners in multiple market segments, and they have been impressed and excited about the benefits it has in next generation designs.”
